Thing is, there's a grain of truth to that explanation. As we see in Distant Sky, Haneul's really messed up the timeline by trying to change the future countless iterations. I bet Atrahasis played a big role there too, though, assuming he's created the sinkholes. But ultimately, White is to blame, as I don't think Earth would be in danger in the first place if not for him.
