Dad, you gotta discuss this kind of stuff better, listen (ACTUALLY listen) to your son, and maybe your son wouldn't avoid telling you shit. You could have known about the meetings, even meeting the grownups of the group so you know it's safe, but instead your son is sending you to a residence first chance he gets.

I understand where the father is coming from if by chance his son got kidnapped because of the pc and phone he gave him.
But, acting this fast infront of a child as if he would understand right away is unrealistic.

The way the dad is saying "if i haven't met them" its like ok??? Then go meet them!

I'm thankful to my parents to save me from online creeps and internet safety. However, the difference is that my dad actually talked to my online friends on voice chat. I was taught the danger signs such as if they want to meet private IRL or nude pics. This approach is only going to make the child not trust the parent and keep private accounts and secrets leading to danger

The child's response "What do you even know about me?" suggests that the parent in the situation doesn't even really talk with the kid, only talks at them and never really listens.

That's a major parenting fail.

For my parents, it was a paradox if I wanted to visit my friends outside of school.

- " Parents, I want to visit my friend/ have my friend visit me."

- " We need to see them first, we don't know them."

- " OK, can you come along and talk to them/ meet them at school?"

- " No, we don't know them. "

Suffice to say, it didn't work out until around high school when I got my driver license.

Oh, I know it is a paradox. I had a mother who kept saying "we don't know them" and I kept pushing them to meet my friends + their parents so they CAN know them.
