Just a guess here, but I think these are henchmen from that guild in China run by the female disciple of his that wants to see him. Probably sent them to simply escort him to meet with her, but these knuckleheads interpreted those instructions a little loosely, you know, being gung-ho knuckleheads and all.

Assuming I'm right, it would save so much trouble by just going to meet the person you want to meet instead of sending goons to bring them to you, like Chinese food delivery or something. This is true for pretty much all of these Korean and Chinese stories.

@Gravewind Probably you're right. But, why couldn't they just greet him as a civilized person like set up an appointment beforehand with secretary instead of doing an ambush like that. More unnecessary drama.
