At least from the way the plot being laids out, I think Aldini is leaning more toward red herring. Maybe he's actually the one who knows the real mastermind, but couldn't tell anyone because he have trust issue and the mastermind is that much bigger than him and the families.

I'm thinking the royal family, looking at how 1 of the family is getting pressured. But I feel like that answer is too easy.

Having the royal family be the main villain would provide a more comprehensive Antagonist for the story to go against in multiple conflicts, especially as they have stayed out of the limelight, yet have been stated to be in control of the underworld families to a certain degree. I suspect that Ricardo's father started the drug business to deal with the family's financial woes, but he's already been outed and his crimes are being used as blackmail by our main mastermind.

No idea if this is true, but that's my best guess. If anyone knows who it actually is, I wouldn't mind some spoilers.

I'm of the opinion that while it's not a Sherlock Holmes level story, the plot is pretty good in how it's presented so you should avoid spoilers. Or at least read the WN yourself.

The culprit is indeed Ricardo's father. If I recall, the financial woes were set as his motives, but it was also found out someone had used the same mind influencing skill on him as the people on the ball. While he's been arrested and can no longer serve as family head, there's at least that going for him so he's not going to be executed. He still broke the blood oath though, brainwashing or no, so it's still a big deal. Remember it's the underworld.

That means there's a still a mastermind. Obviously Francesca doesn't know who it is because the game never covered it. Though she figured they're still following the game story, just that she had died before all of these plot twists were revealed. Leonardo was supposed to become a playable character after all.
