Even in America, there's a curious connection between cave systems and unsolved disappearances...which also line up with Bigfoot sightings. I'm curious to see how this turns out, even if it may not be treading new ground (there's been a couple of movies with similar premises over the years). I'm surprised they showed off the creature so soon though.

This is what i am wondering, honestly the reveal came too soon, also doesn't helps that the mystery goober is just a gobling...

Well, in all the movies like this, like The Cave, the Descent, or The Cavern (all of which came out in 2005, by the way!) they
showed different subspecies of monster, the monsters had some psychic or otherworldly power, or the monsters had some sort of troglodytic society, basically making the problem a swarm or a series of threats rather than a single entity. So it's likely possible this little blighter is a vanguard or a scout, and bigger/heavier creatures still lurk in the dark. We've already seen these creatures utilize simple tools, like weaving the necklace of trophies, and something sharp enough like an axe to CLEANLY cut the head off the streamer, so these things are probably smart AND have home field advantage.

This was definitely inspired by The Descent right, the 2005 british horror movie. About a bunch of cavers encountering a bunch of monsters, the designs are almost exactly the same.

The map was created with cherry picked data to make a good shape for the Internet, and even if it was 100% legitimate, unbiased data, it's not hard to imagine that remote areas with caves will have more missing persons.

Not a lot of cave systems in Baltimore. The more you know!

I could beat up that little bitch monster. If that monster came up to me like that I'd grab it's head and neck and piledrive it's head into the rock . As if some 130 lb , unarmed, scrawny , humanoid, bitch monster is going to kill me coming straight up to me like that.

In fact, if a monster like that put me in a self-defence situation, after knocking it unconscious I might just violate it in order to teach it respect.

btw it's quite an interesting idea to have half an introductory chapter then just skip straight to the action. I guess other manga either need to have a very long first chapter to cram the intro, or they need to have some short scenes of the monster attacking other characters before the main characters come across it. manga magazine readers often want something to hook them within the first chapter or two so this is a good way to go about it, and they can always tell us the rest of the introduction later.
