This is the worst result yet, becoming a controlled fella in a dystopian country which wouldn't have even tried fixing the root cause of him even considering crime.

He was shown since he was little to have theft on the mind, either they have a mental issue that needed to solved or they were in a situation that prompted stealing as the best outcome.

The former is why the last bit, giving psychological evalutions(and it better be for free with a good psychotherapist),should just outright be given to everyone, and taught in schools that it's a good thing to go to.

Someone has the tendencies?,good, they're already where they need the help from.

The latter is the government being more then willing to spend money on this system instead of actually ensuring the poor are given better environments(which includes psychological evalutions)whilst the ultra rich should be restricted directly(not through avoidable taxes)through regulations that ensure the excess money goes to the government(whilst closely monitored and shown transparently where the money is being used to the public)so it can be funnelled to the places that need 'em.

Of course, governments don't want that, they want control so that the capitalistic fellas can bribelobby their way into things, the people be damned.

As bad as the US is for allowing such issues whilst not stamping out completely the smaller parties that use up their military budget, their founding fathers were the smartest people to have ever created a nation, their ammendments are what the people can use the most to prevent governments from getting too far, even if the current system allows for what they've been dealing with since 1900.

Another good story in this comic, and a good reminder to keep your government in check before they make it impossible to do so.

A bit of a nonsense ending but it's a trope in East Asian fiction for some reason. "It was a VR morality experiment" is like one step up from "it was just a dream". It shows a real inability to follow through on the moral quandaries presented in the story. What do we do about the fact that you can profit from murder and that people will do so? Nothing, because actually there's always an omnipotent someone watching so clearly no one will be immoral ever!
