I presume that using divine power require a physical casting and ws why the candidate saint was moving like that?
Would be nice if the plot did give a bit more info aside the MC immediate surrondings, but it even skiped on several info about the circles and what a mage can do, fits that secondary characters get nothing.
And Lucas fanatic probably tried to investigate personally the places the fake trace was rumored to have been found, or questioned the stories in the country and was arrested as for them only the news of being close to it brought immense gain, someone trying to debunk it would become a national enemy.
Last possibility, she had got there for research, wasn't anonymus and is know she is a researcher of the legacy, so the state kidnapped her to help in their search as they are stuck at the beginning as the MC likely didn't plan for much more than the initial trace to buy time.
