Yep, it was hinted that twintails looked at MC with interest, but for their difference in status, her noble mentality and kids not showing their feelings in the right way it became ruthless tormenting of MC and the girl he was closest.
Twintails wanted MC to bend to her, thought it was expected from someone inferior to her in position.
Not the first comic where I see this kind of relationship going bad.
Bringing a unstable new companion to a event like that was a bad script.
I'm sure MC can reach the top too, after all his soul was "invited" in this world from someone, possibly the goddess wanted some type of change, when Lucas did bring a lot thanks to his otherwordly knowledge MC is unable to do the same.
I presume the rival duke got instructions from the church, possibly they discovered that the republic had a fake fate, that then makes MC the most likely real owner, they possibly realized that MC intervention with the republic instead of letting it be or keeping a low profile was for unintetionally having started a war.
