Eh... I'm still pretty confident he had already given up on Anna by the time he confessed, based on context around the event. He was just wrapping things up in middle school as he graduated, because I'm quite confident he already had a good idea he lost as of Ch75, when Anna literally dragged Kyo off in front of him while saying a rather final 'sayonara' to him. The only thing he was 'serious' about was tying up all his affairs, so to speak, in middle school, and the last loose end was... going to Anna after Kyo's speech to get rejected. His childhood friend Mamiya already knew the confession was just 'ceremony'- a performance that meant little more than clearing the air between them as he moved on to high school.

I still hooted and hollered at Nanjou getting nutshot, though. The icing was the congrats so he could get full closure on his feelings for Anna and finally pay attention to Mamiya.


Also, yeah, Chii deserves to know she was actually right about Anna and Kyo.
