That post script should be a given after the conclusion of this volume's main chapters, but it still bears pointing out, for sure...
Yes, they couldn't move forward until they could accept and like themselves. And Anna's already reached that stage, but she's still super embarrassed with expressing her true feelings, as we saw at the end there.
Kyo, on the other hand, though he managed to give the speech, he pushed himself to do it in a somewhat unnatural way, and collapsed afterwards. He, also, has some growth left before he is ready to organize and express those feelings in earnest.
We're not quite there. Still have a ways. Pretty sure the proper confessions/replies get covered in Volume 8, which was adapted into the final three or four episodes of the anime's second season.
