mangaka probably realized how stagnant they made it in the few chapters before especially after the valentines arc. the cavalry thing with Adachi was an example of that. Good for the mangaka to realize and be like "You know what...I dont know where im going with this so lets just make them confess already!"

At the rate the anime is adapting. It'll be around episode 10 of S2. Not too bad relative to how long people have to wait for most ROM COM confessions which is S3 or more.
