Welp, this is what happens when adults get in the way of the kids' fun. It's sad that the tension of referrals and scouting, something imposed from above and beyond their control, is putting bright kids, who share a passion for baseball and should thus be best friends forever, at each other's throats. Not sure whether the author is consciously portraying this dirty aspect of organised sports, but it's so obvious in this chapter that the kids don't even realise the adults have removed all the joy from playing. Not even a victory against the Hirakata Bears can cut through the animosity of these stressed-out kids.

But Tokio, weren't you who always harped about baseball being about merit (chapter 46)? Now Jiro has vastly outshone you and everyone else, you're taking it out on him? And now it's important to use signals and to not steal the limelight, huh? What a load of bull.

Aya's joy from winning the game on his terms is gone. Gone is the bright smile from chapter 78. Now it's "I'm sorry for existing". Damn, the boy can't catch a break, can he?
