I think it’s the son of that family that sent all those people, or at least the ones after the carriage. He is in love with MC so he takes advantage of the situation to get her alone and be her “saviour”, or at least the only one she can depend on, even if it’s in a toxic like relationship. He tried many times to get her to marry him in the future/past after all.
