Yeah, i find it so weird how chinese authors especially will let the MC withhold relevant info like, I'm your childhood friend, so that we can have some tension and dramatic reveals. But that just shows how immature the authors are. They pay no mind to how psycho this makes the MC appear. They lean so, so heavily on the audience always rooting for the self-insert OC. But, you have to make your arrogant MC likeable first. Or else he just seems like a villain. Maybe they really believe in their own BS about how Strength is Justice. The strong determine what is right. It's super out of place in this industrialized modern society. If he was the demon king reincarnated, then his behavior for would make sense. But he's just a "normal" kid (at least, from what we know for now), who has a few years of severe trauma and martial arts training. He didn't get stuck in a pocket dimension for 10,000 years as far as I can tell. So, his attitude is unsettling–frightening even. It feels like, the author read a bunch of urban cultivator stories recently, which all involved some venerable ancient master, regressing to his old human life on earth. And so he's writing his MC the same way, but it obviously isn't working.
