Rintaro's got an amazing mom. I really do love seeing supportive parents in romcoms. It's sooo easy to write the parents out in a high school romcom by noting they're busy at work or whatever, but I take it as a sign of capable writing when the author doesn't shy from depicting AND giving a parent character a role in the story.

Yeah, I forgot Rintaro's pals still didn't know his secret. Would be great if he can just find a way to communicate this to them properly, but I think that might not be so simple given the bad blood between their schools.

The entire concept of "EQ" is a farce invented by people with low IQ who couldn't see it as anything other than a social value judgement, so they invented their own alternative social value judgement to misrepresent their inability to control their emotions as a strength. The only thing I'll say in their favour is that trying to game the system is at least more duplicitous than the more usual approach of just throwing a tantrum.
If you'd like a metaphor, EQ is a paper star with the words "You Tried" on it.

In any case, this "story" fails at both realism and the fundamental elements of fiction that make a story interesting. And without either of those, it is no more than a series of disjointed events that don't relate to anything.

The issue here is that you fundamentally can't understand EQ. It is basically made up, yes, but it's not more made up then IQ. I'd even argue it's much more usefull since the emotions themselves aren't objective, i.e. "made up". EQ isn't real in a material sense, but it is real in a social sense. As in, people's ability with human interactions varies, and it can be measured somewhat.

As for your opinion on the manga, you just don't get it. This manga in particular must be really confusing, because it's very reliant on your skill at observing the body language and understanding things that're only implied in the dialogues, never mentioned outright.

The thing about manga, and most fiction in general, is that what you're meant to pay attention to is highlighted. Attention is deliberately focused based on what the frames do or don't show. As such, unlike meatspace, it isn't left up to chance and there is little vaguery as to whether it is happening or not... so one's attunement to "body language" doesn't even come into play.

Speaking of which "body language" is a misnomer. The vast majority of it isn't any sort of language at all as it isn't conscious. It isn't intended to convey information, regardless of whether information can be discerned from it or not. Furthermore, most of the interpretation is likewise subconscious for mundanes... and probably just comes through in the form of "intuition" or something like that. Simply put, the conclusions are simply pushed into your mind from a cognitive level you're not controlling at all, and without any of the workings to be sure whether what you're feeling is right or wrong.
Since I don't have those social instincts, I've had to compensate by learning how to emulate such processes consciously. It is slower that way, but I get the opportunity to rationally analyse what I'm seeing as I'm not doing it all in animal-mode.

Why I'm going through all this is that this isn't even remotely realistic as far as romances go. It is idealistic. It is what people WANT reality to be, except it isn't that way. In reality people don't resolve things instantly. Even when they attempt to talk things through (and that often after procrastinating or getting distracted), more often than not it just changes the misinterpretations rather than resolving them. Personally I'd say a lot of that is due to the "body language" nonsense. There is far less wiggle-room for misunderstandings and miscommunication when one simply uses words and uses them correctly.

If people in reality were as straightforward about things as they are in this series, my job would be vastly easier than it is.

It isn't the interesting kind though. It is just shortcutting.
That wouldn't be a problem if one was experiencing that in one's own life. Just skipping stages and pushing ahead might be fine for some, but it isn't fun to watch from the outside. Plus everyone is being so overwhelmingly effeminate about it, regardless of gender.
