Subaru's truly watching out for the two of them. Arranging their classmates to celebrate the day after Kaoruko's birthday so it doesn't overlap with Rintaro's plans and cause sure drama with their classmates is a proactive and smart move.

It makes me glad I can rely on this manga to have the characters communicate to avoid drama. Subaru fessed up to Kaoruko before misunderstandings could begin. In other manga it could've been a source of drama for one to secretly tell another's birthday like this, and him knowing her birthday without her telling could've been seen as creepy or stalker-ish.
