Quite a story. The illustration of that leader babookari, the facial expressions, really drew the eye. That part at the end, where they surmise whether this sudden burst of strategy came about due to its earlier blow to the head, is also interesting.

Sometimes damage to certain parts of the brain has some weird effects. Namely there's a lack of inhibition that may enable an organism to be.... bolder, more experimental, coming up with and trying what may appear to be reckless or uncertain strategies or behaviors.

The same thing with the old stoned ape hypothesis where experimenting with certain mushrooms may have somehow driven more complex, abstract thoughts (although I believe this is not taken too seriously in most anthropological circles).

So many things lost to the impenetrable mists of the past.

I was half-expecting the narrator to end with "5 million years after humanity went extinct, primates still find a way to dominate the environment". But then the final pages made me remember this manga is clearly a tribute to the David Attenborough documentaries and their sense of humor. Especially the rattleback enjoying the carakiller eggs while a slapstick scene is happening in the background.
