Fun! The art definitely felt more primitive and...static(?) than the artist's more recent work, but I always enjoy seeing how authors evolve over time.

Kinda weird seeing protagonists with eyes actually looking straight ahead tho

(Also boyo, if birds flew all the time we wouldn't have them delicious legs. Just sayin' )

If I'm remembering correctly, which is doubtful, pigeons don't fly away from danger because they see the world at such a high frame rate that the entire world is basically in slow motion for them.

And they're really convinced that they always have plenty of time to get away from any danger. Even if they are actively being run over or eaten.

I did some "research" while I was working on it, and the supposed reasons for them only flying last second was your explanation and also that they'd rather conserve energy by just walking (I am not an expert on this topic).
But them forgetting that they can fly sounds way funnier.
