well it taking the form of the other party could go either way. Them lacking any form of communication makes it seem like they are purely instinctual and just luring you in for food, but it could be that they want to be friends but don't understand that other creatures need to breath, like "hey come hang out in my underwater room so we can be friends. . . why did you stop moving?".
