I love the "I wouldn't want to be enslaved" argument, it's such a simple truth. The slaver mage is capable of correctly defining personhood, and anyone can clearly tell that elves and other non-humans meet that definition, but he's incapable of connecting the dots because of ideology. He doesn't even think he did anything wrong, he's baffled by the idea that the massacre of an entire village could even be criticised. It's so disgusting, and too close to reality for comfort.
