Totally. He pissed off the girl that is, despite his shortcoming, still head over heels, by saying she isn't his girlfriend.
For her the trip is too nail him down. And maybe get nailed in the process.
And he still doesn't see that his father just wants him to succeed. And that's the reason why he is strict with him. Faking his schema will so blow up in his face.
But my educated guess is that MC and friends + events there will finally unlock it.

It's like she's trying to paint their relationship as being deeper than it actually is. Normally, by now, it would be a deep relationship but it just feels shallow to me. Honestly, they don't interact a whole lot. It all just feels...forced.
