Ok so vampires leave scales which might suggest that vampires in this universe are a type of insect.
And insect would make sense as there are many blood sucking variety's, that also have tails and wings.
Another thing that this might explain is her metamorphosis when she smells blood or gets excited.
Also one interesting fact, only female mosquitoes drink blood and they do so only before or during pregnancy.

The scales produced from the vampire transformation, what seem to scatter around like smoke might have the evolutionary purpose of briefly protecting vampires from the sun when they transform.
Moreover the fact that they burn to the sun could be related to an insect like evolution as many insects aren't good with heat.
