Am I the only one who didn’t find the pudgy girl that annoying? In fact, I thought myself that the way the MC acted towards her this chapter was pretty pathetic in itself.

Nah I think the fat girl is giving really valid points. There's more social commentary here than I was expecting from the premise

i really hate that line of thinking. "everyone who wears makeup is doing it for someone else," except that's not it at all. sure some people wear makeup so other people don't judge them, but even if they did, does she have any right to judge them? just because that's why she did it doesn't mean that's how everyone thinks. if you wear makeup because you want to look pretty, that's your business. it's no one else's. not wearing makeup because people judge you for it is basically the same as wearing makeup so people don't judge you. i don't know about anyone else, but i'd rather wear makeup than not just because some scumbag tells me "you'd look prettier without makeup" yeah and you'd look with your mouth shut.

@shelliana right on. I think the author's views are coming out in that character's story line, frankly. The other characters have been dancing around the "with / without make up" themes but it hasn't been so on the nose. The author is making a big statement and it's obviously polarizing to people. I think it's that way because it's challenging something that we all deal with every day: living for others and ourselves at the same time and trying to decide which more important. That is if one is more important than the others. I think it's different for different people so there can never be a true right answer.

@myshi I agree. See what I said above. I think the author is doing a great job of tossing a tough issue out in our faces. I have a feeling, given how great this series has been to me so far, that the author is going to take this somewhere special. I don't know why but I've got a good feeling about the statement that they are trying to make with having such a straight forward character being interjected into the mix this way.

From now on pay attention to which characters embody the two different sides of that theme: living for yourself (wearing make up / getting dolled up for yourself) or living for others (wearing make up / getting dolled up for others).

Side character gives points worth thinking about. But I completely disagree with them. Make up is meant to be fun. Sure there'll be times when you wear it because of other people, but it's ultimately something many people do simply cuz they like how it looks.

Fatty's character design reflects her personality so well that this was totally planned ahead.

I like this questioning of whether we're living for ourselves beauty wise or for others. This is interesting, I don't think it's so black and white. I'm curious to see how that encounter will effect Yeseul.
