I usually have trouble following otome politics but this one was surprisingly easy.

Just for anyone who doesn't understand:

1. There are two factions currently in the Imperial Capital: the Empress (who's from the West) and the Concubine (who's from the South). The Emperor (Lord Bastard) is doing his schemes with support from the South. If word gets out, then the South-faction would drag the Empress and the West (who are allied with the North) through the mud. Escalating would put her life in danger and the West in a state of conflict with the Emperor.

2. The North currently has support from both West and East due to the illegal trading thing being solved. This puts the North at a very powerful position. The North now has the advantage of making the first move, and the Emperor can only respond instead of act. This gives the North a lot of leeway and they can decide carefully for their next move, unlike the Imperial Capital that can only react when action has been taken.
