Japan was one of the last 10 countries left, they did lose to the Behemoth in the first battle that we saw on chapter 1, but they were still alive. It's really strange that MC didn't knew about her, since she probably influenced everything.

Well the stronger the country the easier to keep her secret I guess alongside everything else disappearing and that she uses it on the ones that might know and the strong.
