Uh-oh, bad end... We went full tragedy mode in seconds after the awkward age-gap romance plot line. RIP, mermaid boi.
I think there is some truth to the whole suicide spot thing.
Like I remember reading a thing about how they stopped publishing how many people jump off the golden gate bridge because people would try to be the Xth person to jump off (x = 100 was particularly chaotic.)
Basically if a particular method of dying gets built up as special or romantic it's pretty bad.
