Given that she is the daughter of such a high profile figure. And his brother - her uncle - is still alive and well. I think not.

But I also agree the relationship situation is the worst. The protagonist going this far to not consider that she is interested in him. So he should have clearly communicated to her that he is going to kill her brother. But nope, nothing. I hope he deals with the brother soon. So the heart break won't be as damaging to the story.
