What a strange woman. Obviously you can cut a thread with a sword. A sword has a whole lot more matter than a thread, so even if the thread was theoretically much stronger than the sword, assuming the thread was made of some fancy material, ultimately it will be chewed through. Not to mention Alta's sword isn't just any piece of ordinary material.

The Sword Gang hasn't been overly impressive so far. They are mainly one-skill wonders, who also rely on their specific weapon too much. Since they aren't that tough, it makes all the knights they defeated look miserable.

I dunno. Look like it was a magical barrier using the threads as base, I've seen this one before.

And while the Sword Gang are all one-trick-pony, their gimmicks aren't something you could beat without being ridiculously OP tho. You could argue that their movesets are "common", "boring", but "weak" is quite wrong.

The first dude is your typical katana edgelords, which is a guaranteed blizting and oneshooting machine to anyone who isn't as OP as the MC.

The second dude have a segmented blade with a connecting thread (the #1 common weakness of this weapon in stories) so strong not even the MC can break.

Only two people can see the lady's threads to begin with.

The boss is just undeniably all-round strong. And a, by all means, powerful and dangerous gimmick on top of that.
