Really couldn't help yourself. So there's a duality to this that's just jaring. On one hand, yes, he wants power to upend the ivory tower. I got that. On the other hand, he needs to survive until there's a clear difference in strength between him and the tower master-by not scaring them into overreacting.

Why is he trying to stand out even more? In his own words 'play the part of an obedient child'. And yet here he is making one who should've been considered a peer high mage piss herself.

It's like the author wanted to cater to people who were bullied in school and forgot the part where there's a long term goal.
