I feel he doesn't have much reason for revenge against his family. He really wasn't fit for duty and while they kicked him out, they he did have the skills to survive in the world and he really just wasn't fit.
They even wished him well, meaning they really didn't have any bad intentions...
I mean, it sucks... but if you aren't suited, you aren't suited.... it's that simple.
His "fiancee" had loyalty to the clan, and while the other dude did kinda rub it in his face, it was also his dream and rivalry being fulfilled... doesn't make them bad....
