Ok so can someone explain/spoil me. Was the engagement ring a lightbulb moment for the prince or did the story just forcibly shift his gears and said "Hey this is the route we're going with your relationship so we're just gonna poke your noggin a bit and oop- he's in love now." Cause I don't know which way is the correct way to interpret the creaking gears in head thing.

1. Get the story he wants out.
2. Get back at our girl for making him read out loud their script
3. It might also have some significance or a clue leading towards the Saintess.

Nice catch. Its the same set of gears we saw in this chapter.

It could be just the artist copying assets to save time but it's more likely meant to imply the "system" doing something like you said

I'm voting for Sedin. Honestly he's more handsome than the prince and also, I'm pretty sure the proposal was a calculated move. He now finds her valuable enough so he's probably trying to tie her to him in whatever form, probably thinking she wouldn't break off an engagement with everyone watching her.
But the thing is, the previous Reneé had far too many troubles to even bother fixing how society views her and the current Reneé couldn't care less what others would think of her. It only "works" now because she's more concerned about their plans.
