Glad i never read that. Sad(?) i will never read that. They are compared him to Kazuya. The protagonist of Rent-a-Girlfriend, series by the same author.
We are talking of a guy about 3 years older than the MC here, but way worse in every way possible. I'll list some of his problems.
1 - Kazuya got a girlfriend in the past, yet somehow feels less experienced with women.
2 - He can't avoid blushing and paralyze like a loser if he gets any attention from women.
3 - He wastes a bunch of his and his parent's money on Chizuru, a rental girlfriend (if you don't know what that entails, it's literally paying a girl to act affectionate and hang out with you, going on dates and stuff as if you were her boyfriend, but with no sex or real intimacy included) and lied to his family her being his actual girlfriend.
4 - He got self-concious about Chizuru -who he loves- dating other guy and imagined her getting fucked by someone else, which resulted in the most iconic scene of the manga with him crying while having an erection in a pool...
5 - Also not first time he auto-NTR himself, he also imagined his ex-girlfriend sleeping with other men in extreme detail after they broke up.
6 - In already 2-3 occasions he has rejected other hot and cute girls somewhat interested in him because he preferred to simp after Chizuru.
7 - Even now, after 1-2 years of knowing Chizuru, he still holds her in a pedestal, even though the manga itself has shown she has a bunch of flaws. Kazuya is aware, and accepts those flaws, but still acts as if she were a perfect unreachable girl.
....
Well, there's probably more to say, but I dropped that manga a lot of time ago.
You get the idea, though, Kazuya is pathetic.
The manga had a decent run where it maintained solid quality, and the characters exhibited appreciable, albeit very slow, growth. Then, after hitting a high point in its emotional storytelling and giving a great payoff that rightfully should have led to a ton of meaningful character development, the author instead decided to torpedo the series directly off of a fucking cliff. The main characters didn't just regress - they became actively worse, less likeable people than they were in the very first chapter. Everything that followed was a slow burn of misery, progressing with the pace of frozen syrup failing to trickle from a tapped maple tree.Glad i never read that. Sad(?) i will never read that.
It appears that manga is

Being a proactive heroine is a death sentence in harem manga because readers will otherwise complain that the winner was too obvious (poor Nino.) I say the best solution is to have multiple proactive heroines. It always like this, girl like her always lose. Romance manga is too cruel
Now we can really see depth of her emotions and creeping despair.I've resolved it, mb
The rent a girlfriend dude is truly the lowest of the low, how does that comic run for so long lolIn her case it is:
Aka she craving attention and want MC perceive her differently who she is.
Knowing community as a whole probably the one from Rent-a-Girlfriend or combined image of all romcoms MC.
Of don't worry, I've read at least part of rent a girlfriend, didn't get to the pool arc but enough to know he's the worst possible lead for a romantic series, what a loserThey are compared him to Kazuya. The protagonist of Rent-a-Girlfriend, series by the same author.

Never read that and, probably, never will be so only can give the assumption. The rent a girlfriend dude is truly the lowest of the low, how does that comic run for so long lol
The manga sells well, is genuinely popular in Japan, and has an anime adaptation that continues to get season after season. Why would he give up the gravy train when it's making him so much money? I don't fault the guy for keeping it going - I fault him for the way he's doing it.The rent a girlfriend dude is truly the lowest of the low, how does that comic run for so long lol
Ah so he made the Mc ultra pathetic and never let's him actually have the girl because he's jealous lolThe manga sells well, is genuinely popular in Japan, and has an anime adaptation that continues to get season after season. Oh yeah, and he's also in love with the fictional character he's created. So there's that. It's pretty fucking weird.
No shame in liking what you like. Citrus is one of my all time favorite manga so I'm hardly in a position to judge anyone else's taste in literature.Wow, people here really seem to hate Rent a Girlfriend. I think its a cute series though. Kazuya can be a bit annoying but otherwise I'm having my fun with it.
Rent a girlfriend I would assume, same author.Who? Couple of people have compared this Mc to another unnamed Mc and I'm just not as cultured as you guys lol

Before this point I honestly was wondering how in the hell an anime adaptation of this ever got greenlit. Why ts actually good 😠low-key excited for the anime now
