Theory based on everything I've seen so far: The world is either a game or it's a toy for otherworlders to play with for the amusement of the goddesses. The first emperor had a username above his head and presumably access to the blue window system because he was inhabited by a player. The player was able to fight off the apostles because whenever he died the game would reload last checkpoint. Eventually player finished or moved on and the body became an uninhabited empty shell. It was buried and Erast was established nearby to watch over the body. They decided to scratch the tombstone to stop people from digging up such an important thing. Don't know who Kevin Ashton is but eventually he somehow made a "spell" to raise the empty shell as a skelly and hid it in Erast's library. Skeleton is raised and because of his body is he still has all the abilities of a player character. I don't know how to make Rubia fit into this though.
