It could be a guilt thing, her guilt over the war and other matters manifesting in the curse, being forgiven relieved the guilt and the curse was push back.

Or maybe the Curse was Elkins hate for her unintentionally cursing her with his prayers and desire for revenge, when he let it go then the curse released itself.

Or maybe the curse was always something she was mentally doing tonl herself with her powers subconsciously, like a deep seated self loathing, and the comfort Elkin provided when he finally embraced her was enough to stop her self loathing and the pain?

There are lots of options in my mind as to what just happened.

It's a pretty nice and standard tale that looks decent and reads well when it's not going over the kingdom's politics. Good standard comfort read.
Also, multicolored eyes are peak.
