I'm going to take a different tack and empathize with the artist. Because... yeah, they stopped JUST as things started to properly get interesting. And I think perhaps that spooked them. I've been in that position as a writer before, just suddenly being overwhelmed with both the possibilities and this sense of responsibility that comes with.
I mean yeah as the audience I find that incredibly frustrating. But I've been in that place, it comes when you lack faith in yourself or your process and are suddenly "surprised" when you put out something you really like. Like "oh no there's no way I could live up to this momentum". And yeah, you just want to shake Author-san and go "your talent took you this far, don't doubt yourself now!"
