I would assume he's massively jealous. At a guess, he's been an adventurer since he was old enough to be, has been working moderately or even entirely hard on ranking up and getting stronger, then this random dude swoops in and gets not only rank skipped, but brought along on multiple higher ranked jobs. If I'm right he'll shut the he'll up once some proper combat happens.
