the author really didn't try much with the pre-isekai setting
man is the only one who decided to stick with novice in "Novice Strongest Online" despite its clearly superior skill ceilling

only scenario in which this could realistically happen is if the game flopped hard and he was the only guy grinding the game

Yeah.

In the real world there are a shit-ton of min-maxers and meta players, I doubt anyone would NOT go Novice in a game where the title literally says what the strongest class is in it's title.

Also I feel like author saw the Super Novice class in Ragnarok Online and got inspired lol.

Man, this is like the author overheard people talking about permanovice/supernovice in RO then rushing out a story idea thinking "if it had SUPER in the name, it must be super duper awesome".

Is this manga a remake of the manga about a noble son who gets banished for getting the novice class, but it turns out to be the strongest? Or is this a distinct story?

I think the MC does not actually have memories of living in a high-tech world and playing a game. They are all fake memories, given as part of a blessing from gods that just gave him plenty of knowledge about the world he is in.
That's why the game and his background seem purposely made to prepare him for his current situation, and he demonstrates no disadvantages characteristic of a person who grew up in a peaceful high-tech world.

Truly, nobody would think of playing the Novice job in a game called "Novice is the Strongest Online". He's breaking the mold!

Maybe he didn't recieve his past life memories fully and he recieved only the vr part. Thanks to that his current life's memories dominate his past one.

Trying really hard to justify it:
If today's game industry can be considered, he might just have been the main whale supporting the game. Maybe to get the best of the novice job one would have to not only grind and study a lot, but also pay for some stuff (which the MC might get as a bonus in this world because of plot armor or inheritance of previous life).
There might be some interesting enough perks to the other jobs as well and people might just prefer it. I know for a fact that I love playing as sup, so even in a game named "the best possible job ever by far is anything but the healer" I'd still play as the healer just because (I'd probably move to other game very soon though).
