Though there isn't a real direction to this series--the MC just kind of wanders wherever without any overarching goal--I rather like how the plot evolves the way an RPG character does. That is, it starts out with him weak (comparatively speaking) learning about the world, and figuring out how to do things. It then moves towards wandering about, killing monsters, and getting into action-type adventures. Now, it's moving more into a political plot as he's growing into a higher level character.
