The Mc can just kill the majority of those that oppose him due to his wealth and status either himself, by creating enemies for those people or assassinations, but instead, it'll probably be the usual route of being passive and barely scraping by until he manages to reduce their hostility through manipulation and misunderstandings that no one with a brain would fall for.
