He's a bona fide son of a duke. He has never got any self-confidence issues and he most certainly hasn't gone through a terrible childhood. So, even if he intellectually understands the catastrophic relationship between Melody and her mother, he probably couldn't ever imagine what Melody has suffered through and would still suffer when the mother would start hurling more insults and demands in Melody's face, trying to guilt-trip Melody into helping her.
