I guess my imagination took the better of me, because there's not enough "clue" in this chapter for me to "deduce" the scenario in my previous comment.

Because of the total lack of hatred on his face when Askan appeared in this chapter, I think Askan didn't hate Thanasia (yet?). Then my imagination somehow made me think that after serving the family for some time Askan symphatized with Thanasia's situation and maybe even loved her. That him killing Thanasia then was actually an accident caused by the family, which was what that prompted him to become a villain. Askan was experimented and ran away from Kallua Empire afterall, so he has no reason to support Kallua's side in that war.

Even though there's another possibility. Thanasia was a villainess, so it's possible that she did something intolerable that made Askan kill her. Maybe he fell for Noxia too, because Thanasia's villainy revolves around her jealousy towards Noxia. Though if it's true there must be a reason why he kept being a villain afterwards.
