I got the understanding that the grip and housing would be made out of a magical resistive material and the connector/trigger/sear/etc. to the firing pin would be made out of highly conductive material. This way, the magic would be "on" at all times and she'd simply be able to "fire" it via a circuit that she'd close
"ON" by pulling the trigger and completing the circuit. Once it connected, she'd release the trigger, reopening the circuit
"OFF" would close it and enable reloading/preventing premature detonation.
Basically, she's taking electrical theory and implementing it into a firearms design like an electronic firing mechanism. [Think of a Vulcan gun on a naval ship that operates electronically to create a wall of bullets for anti-aircraft and anti ballistic missile defense.]
