So, I've never seen gold "coins" like that. So I had to look it up. Going to wikipedia to look at the history of chinese currency. And there I'd find an image that looked similar to it with a link to the term "sycee".
So a Sycee is a type of ingot used by imperial China during the Qin dynasty. They weren't made by a central bank or mint, but produced by goldsmiths and silversmiths. And they can be decorated with a lot of extra detail. If you look up Sycee on wikipedia, the first image you see will give you an idea.
Apparently in present-day China, they're still used but as a symbol of wealth, commonly seen during Chinese New Year festivities.
