well, next chapter will be the last so

Manga ending with a "confession" typically leaves one unsatisfied... However, this one really was about the journey and growth to reach their own conclusions. While the story could easily keep going, the maturation showcased is impressive, and not wholly unrealistic. Short of an aneurysm level disaster in the last chapter, and hopefully epilogue, I'm fairly pleased with how this one turned out.

I gotta say, confession scenes with just a single super expressive frame of one of the leads on the verge of crying and just blasting out their emotions all at once are the best ones.

I was completely ready to see Shia tell him no, and Tasuku himself was completely ready. He was walking away. I convinced myself I was fine with a bittersweet ending like he described, of a sweet first love that was never meant to be. He was walking away.

Then Shia gave Tasuku her answer.

"But I love you! And I want to be with you!"

Oh my god, I cheered when she gave him her answer. I even cried a little. Man, this chapter had me good in the first 15 pages. I feel like an idiot for putting this off for months because I secretly dreaded a bittersweet coming-of-age rejection ending.

But on the flipside, this was absolutely amazing reading for Christmas.

You have no idea how good of a choice 'Lala Land' is for this scene. It really made me think the ending would be bittersweet, just like that movie. Super fitting. It made me like the ending even more. Without it and the build-up, I would've seen this as "just another shojo manga": boy meets girl, they grow, they change, and (as expected) they get together in the end. But this chapter, even with the ending I initially expected, just made this become one of my favourites. Also, thanks to the author for reminding me about the age difference. Remember, reverse the roles, and you get Carol's parents from 'Tomo-chan is a girl'.

Just saw the confession scene in Dress Up Darling and I had the urge to go see this again.

Remember guys, it's not illegal (very important).

I think there's a less that 5-year age gap exclusion to the statutory rape law (which is now 16 nationwide, but maybe higher in some localities). That's why it's not illegal.
