Even though the setting makes no sense whatsoever, and there's a lot of things in it I'm not sure if I like—I'm broadly fond of the various incarnations of this series just for the way it acts full-throatedly like a stereotypical shoujo and a seinen manga (with a protagonist that works equally hard at both) at the same time. There's somehow a general impression of "nu-uh, I don't care what my teacher says, I'm gonna write what I like," to it.

(even if this particular interpretation tries to embody the shoujo side more)
