Aya is a sham journalist but she always wrote what she believed or someone who told her believed was true, she would rarely outright lie for no reason. She also lied to two youkai that had no reason to seek out the nikushi or defend the article but do occasionally talk to Marisa. There's also the mystery of who sent the sighting to Reimu, a random villager or Aya trying to use her to bait Marisa further?
