It's only now that I realize it - Marisa burned all her magical energy as a result of the curse, but what she's been experiencing these last chapters is mental burnout. It's a story about depression.
Marisa is one of the most outwardly cheerful and positive characters in Touhou Project, so to have her go through this experience is all the more effective in showing that depression really can hit anyone. It lurks in the mind, and some sort of personal setback, some sort of crisis, can bring it out, and everything comes crashing down.
Hopefully it's all uphill from here. Face down those personal demons, Marisa, and this time around... become a true magician.
