When people say, "it's better to adopt", they don't really think about issues like this. Of course there are lucky people who could accept an unknown child in their life, but for some, it's better not to because it could just become like this.

That's why foster families are Japan is so rare, and most of those children end up growing to adulthood in children's homes (aka orphanages).

However the loneliness can also eat into people, for many childless couples as they grow older. Without the next generation all they're really doing is to just wither and die, especially when one has nothing to do other than the same routines day-in, day-out.
