It's not until months later that he becomes suspicious about whether Cybel was actually a fake saint. So he just never conferred with any church member, or the person that declared Cybel was the saint in the first place, about if Annika had holy power?

This is a pretty significant plot hole cause it starts the story and I just assumed the step-mother paid off a priest. Apparently the prince just never bothered to ask anyone else at all.

Doesn't really change anything. Count having two kids still means someone HAD to choose Cybel as the saint. Who chose her and why did they choose her? Unless they did something brain dead and went oh first born must be the saint. I assume the people that made the prophecy were the ones that decided she was the saint.

It doesn't really matter what the prince thinks since there should be people that actually have the ability to determine this or at least are alleged to be able to determine it. Even Leo thinks the prince didn't investigate the reports either at all or properly. Hell, the prince's own words indicate he didn't investigate because he was stressed out, failing to have Cybel fall for him, and it validated his own inferiority complex towards his brother. Leo figured out Cybel's exact home circumstances within a month of knowing her. Either the prince has no factional backing or he was never that interested in her so he didn't keep tabs on her home life. Something that shouldn't be that hard to do since someone had to be protecting the Saint right? Unless they just left the saint totally unguarded as if she would never be targeted by malicious forces.

At some point, some one should have stepped in to actually verify things if a legitimate claim to sainthood was made. The saint always marries into the royal family so it's actually important for them to get the right person.
