took her into custody is just a pretexts. Albert gonna use mary statement as proof to remove Allen from the title hero. Did he also said King give him last chance to prove his right as Hero. The moment Albert learn Allen banish Rick, he knew that he is stupid as he actually knew Rick potential. Albert actually put Mary under his jurisdiction, if Allen tries to harm her, that would be a treason. That old man is crafty, he already have backup hero candidate.

Sure, but all this replacement hero talk is only if he fails, what if he succeeds? It's unlikely the author would let him succeed but the characters shouldn't know that.

So theoretically if he succeeds they'd just let him kill her to keep him happy right.
From her perspective this should be a really shitty situation that she should run away from, no matter if he succeeds or fails, she has no reason to stick around.
Seeing as how they have no legal reason to hold her (right?) talking about custody is weird, "protection" or not.
